French bulldogs:
What you need to know about the breed
Temperment: French bulldogs are active enough to play with and even go on a short jog, but they have similar attributes of the English bulldogs too. They of course, are wonderful with kids and other dogs of all breeds. They love to nap and snore by your feet. They usually have a “quirky” personality and are sure to make you laugh. They are very smart and also more rare than the English bulldogs.
Size: They are considered a small breed weighing only up to around 25 lbs at the most. Most Frenchies are about 20 lbs at full growth and about 10-12 inches tall.
They can breed naturally but most are still artificially inseminated as well. C-sections are common. They make very good mothers and are very gentle as a breed. They do love to snuggle and they love their treats!
They have less health problems than English bulldogs. French bulldogs can have a lot of the same health issues as the English bulldogs, but tend to not have the hip issues and are considered a healthier breed. Although, they still can NOT tolerate the heat. You should consider them an inside pet. Outdoor temperatures over 85 degrees are not desirable for the snub-nosed breed. Keeping their ears clean with a natural ear wash is recommended. If you see them scratching a certain ear or favoring it in any way, you should take them to the vet. They may have a slight infection. Those big stick-up ears are sure cute, but need to be cared for.
They are great apartment dogs as they don’t take up a lot of room and they are good one on one.
Other names for the breed are Bulldoge Francios – Original name from France.
The average cost of a French bulldog is $1800 - $3000
